Bakery buy

You could never shake
your obsession with bread,
the taste, of course, sometimes
sweet, always rich and full,
hearty swell of it and the feel
of gluten stretching, air
in scented pockets pouring
into your senses. You take
a bite, linger in sensation,
and every time, even when
you find it in mediocre form,
it’s the taste of home, joyful
strands of errant flour afloat
in sunbeams. You hope
someday to make your own,
worthy of all this praise,
your own transcendence
of baking into thaumaturgy.
