Koala attacks in Australia
They are growing bolder
each day, making excursions
by night into the Sydney Streets.
They clutch makeshift bamboo
spears, cling to the backs
of kangaroos, and leap
over the high barricades
we have constructed
to repel the onslaughts.
As they approach they sound
their throaty battle cries,
and spur their mounts
onward, encased in woven
rattan battle armor.
As of late the females
have begun to carry
ammunition in their pouches:
small stones at first,
soon succeeded by
sharpened bladelike
projectiles.
The koalas appear to be
rapidly growing in
number and intelligence,
and analysts forecast
that they will soon
discover and utilize
such technologies
as siege engines
and gunpowder.
