Evil trees

Apart from exceedingly
rare exceptions, trees
are only ever truly evil
in winter, when coats
of leaves are gone,
and bare spindled
branches stand sharp
against the grey sky
like skeletons of mythic
brutes belonging
to a different, less
ordered place
than ours.
