Some fairy tale characters
walk into a bar in the city — 
tonight, the ogre’s broad head
hits the low rusty doorframe
as Prince Charming splits
the tab with Gretel. A husky,
distracted from table scraps,
inspects Red Riding Hood’s
stocking, cold wet nose
finding something familiar.
Outside, in the dark April slush,
a few frequent passersby
glance at the tinted window,
hoping their dirty reflections
might be deemed the fairest.
