Back to NaPoWriMo 2019: Car Insurance
Bodily Injury
Because you were frail,
& because carrion birds
descended from our sky
whenever you were close,
I treasured you. You were
a bent and snapped secret,
a deep exposed wound
I tried to coax into health.
Your fever was a throat
I gripped. But even still
death arrived, a small thing
like a slow sun’s decline:
unassuming & inevitable.
