Liability

To drive out onto the road,
this is what we must have:
ready atonement for the sins
we may commit, pre-payment
for the cost of the chaos
we enact on the world. The key
turns in the ignition and we
decide that we are worth
all of this, that we deserve
the open highway, the infinite
streetlight repetition, even
as we pay the necessary price
to alleviate our future guilt.
