Sparkling wine cocktail

I take a sip of the drink
and feel warm and bright,
savor the liquid’s sharp dance
on my tongue and the lights
in the room and the look
of your eyes as you blink,
impossibly gray pools.
In this dream we’re sitting
with fine food and drink,
glowing people, and it feels
so good to flicker like this,
slip away into the night
leaving a comet’s icy tail
in our wake, empty glasses
and a vacant waking life
devoid of what I ever was
before.
