Torpedo, From Memory
The torpedo has just been shot
from a submarine. The torpedo is live,
armed with some kind of high
explosive, and it’s been shot
directly at the cars driving (somehow)
on the ice floe. As it breaches the surface
and slides atop the ice, the torpedo seems
unstoppable, a chaotic force. But this
is a series in which miracles happen,
and it is at this seemingly hopeless
moment when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
opens the door of his armored vehicle
and leans out, bicep swelling, reaching
toward the torpedo as the car veers
to run parallel to it. He manages
to grab onto a protruding piece of metal
and grimaces as he slowly but inevitably
changes the trajectory of the torpedo,
turning it away from the ragtag family
and redirecting it in the direction
of their enemies and how on earth
can you not see how utterly wonderful
these movies are?
