Your new home
is a secret you tell
to almost everyone.

Under spring stars
you say goodbye
to your mom, drive

to your apartment,
and lay out armor
bedside for battle,

plan the defense
you will employ
against morning's

siege. It shouldn't
feel this way. You
shouldn't need this

emotional drawbridge
before the threshold.
But you do.
