Banana

It’s not true, the myth
we’ve heard about bananas:

that they were different
in the past, a touch

sweeter, more round.
It’s said the fake banana

tastes like what the truth
used to be, but we see here

that truth of flavor means
very little: what matters

is our perspective. We taste
what we desire, and if

we want these flavors
to be better, it’s only because

nothing we encounter
is what we hope to find

in this world of learning
to love what’s real.
