Back to NaPoWriMo 2025: Paint Colors
Cityscape
She is bright lights and cityscapes
and white lies and cavalcades
and she’ll take all you ever have
-Sara Bareilles
Unlike you, your city
changes — her stark limbs
stretch across the river,
imitating the music
that projects a new
flexing sensuosity
with each passing year
of college students
bringing their own
new thirst. Second-
floor lights strobe
in reinvented color
and only the bad food
stays the same. You
have been here long
enough to see her bend
and twist around shapes
unknowable to you,
forms you don’t know
and ways of loving
beyond your capacity
to embody.
